Break-out 2 – Lowland development and Irrigation
Description

The Indonesian lowlands are vital for food security, with rice production and multiple cropping reliant on sustainable water management to maintain productivity and prevent flooding or salinisation. To leverage Indonesia’s national ambition towards food sovereignty, the Smart Innovative Water Management (SIWM) concept is introduced, closely aligned with the lowland program of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). The SIWM concept is an integrated water-land management approach that optimises water levels year-round to enhance productivity and sustainability in Indonesia’s lowlands. It combines Dutch expertise in smart technologies, modern monitoring systems, and maintenance-light infrastructure to promote resilient, climate-smart agricultural growth. During this break-out an update on the status of SIWM is provided and we explore opportunities for you to get involved in the next steps of its operationalisation.
