Deel 1 13.50 - 14.20 uur: Smart and Silent ICU: Making Sound Decisions on Alarms ( Engelstalige sessie) 
This session explores how noise, particularly alarm sounds emitted by medical devices near patients’ bedsides, affects the wellbeing of both patients and healthcare providers. By analyzing the acoustical characteristics of these sounds, including loudness, spectral components, and duration, as well as their impact on the overall acoustic environment of ICU rooms at the Department of Adult Intensive Care at EMC, this study investigates how reducing most of the audible bedside alarms to create a Silent ICU can improve patients’ sleep quality and overall experience. The research also assesses nurses’ perceptions of alarm fatigue in relation to changes in the ICU soundscape.
