Ela Fasllija, an architect by training, received her PhD in Interior Architecture and Environmental Design from Bilkent University,, Ankara, Turkey in 2024. She is currently a postdoctoral researcher at Erasmus MC on the Smart and Silent ICU (SASICU) project, which explores how reducing bedside alarm noise can improve patient wellbeing and reduce alarm fatigue among nurses. Her research explores acoustic comfort with a focus on absorbing materials, indoor soundscapes, and the standardization of soundscape assessment methods in various contexts. During her PhD, she was the PI of a project on wideband acoustic materials and received the International Student Grant from the Acoustical Society of America. Ela was awarded the Robert Bradford Newman Medal for Merit in Architectural Acoustics and is an active member of the Acoustical Society of America, the Dutch Acoustical Society, and currently serves as Chair of the Young Acousticians Network of the European Acoustics Association.
